August

We went to turtle beach to see some of the turtles.  They were incredible.  this particular beach they would grab onto the moss and hang on for dear life.  they would stay and eat as long as the waves didn't carry them back out into the ocean.

They were huge!

Boots and Kimo was my favorite place to eat!  They were famous for their breakfast.  They had this macadamia nut sauce that was to die for!!!

Lloyd and our food.  The pancakes with the macadamia nut sauce!  It seriously was sooooo good!  I wanted to buy a bottle and bring it home.

We went to the Dole pineapple plantation.  It was kind of lame.  But we did learn a lot about pineapples.  For example they do not grow in trees :)

Pineapples grow in the ground.  Only one grows on each plant.  It takes 20 months for one to grow.  They need the red soil and a lot of sun.  That is why they grow well in Hawaii.  They have to be planted by hand and also harvested by hand.  A good worker can plant 10,000.  The workers have to ware long sleeves and big thick gloves.  I would hate that job.  it sounds so hot.  A friend of ours said that trouble youth often work in the pineapple fields...

close up of the plans

One of the Coy ponds at the plantation.  there were way to many.  we would throw food out and they would swim on top of each other.  It was kind of gross to watch.

Loco Moco... it was rice gravy hamburger and an egg on top.  I never tried it but Lloyd said it was pretty good.  It was a local favorite.

Me outside of Kahuku Grill in La'ie.  We went to the temple and stop in here because Lloyd said the food was really good.  The stake president was the owner of this place.

I had the coconut Macadamia nut shrimp!  It was seriously so good.  I feel  like I talk about food a lot.  I seriously ate like I was on vacation the whole three months!!! It was ridiculous.  Not a good idea to eat that way for three months.  When I got home I weighed myself.  It wasn't pretty.  I think I gained 8 lbs while I was there.

The cafe that was in 50 1st dates.  Not that impressive!

The Acai yogurt on the other hand was amazing!  We got it by sharks cove.  It was so good!

The roll once again was made with poy... that is why it is purple...

Lloyd brought this contraption home a few times.  Mike introduced him to it.  It was a stemmed roll with meat inside.  It was actually pretty good.  It reminded me the steamed rolls I used to eat in china.

We tried the hot malasados (SP?)  They were basically like a cream puff but with dough and deep fried... They were warm and gooey!  I loved them!

The weirdest tree I have ever seen.  They were everywhere on Hawaii.  The roots grow out of the branches.  I am not sure what they are called but they were cool to look at.

State Flower

Lloyd and I were UFC fighting... I surprised him and eye landed on his elbow... It swelled up right away!

A few days later.  I tried to cover it with make-up but you could still see it!

I had to post this picture.  This was a classic.  Me in my white trash glory!! Back eye and all.  ha ha ha  I sent this to Lloyd one day while he was out working.  It was a big hit.

One of the people that Lloyd sold.  We though our babies looked similar.  except their baby was brown... :)

Lloyd played a lot of angry birds while we were in Hawaii.  Jacey would watch him play once in a while.  He had to get three stars on each level... He has conquered it.  or whatever that means...

Lloyd went selling one day in a ghetto neighborhood.  He actually was going to find his friend Mike.  He was just walking down the sidewalk and thought he could hear Mikes voice.   He was looking up into one of the houses to see if he could see him.  There was an old bus on the corner he just kept walking when all of a sudden a pit bull jumped out and snached his arm.  Lloyd backed up.  The dog luckily let go for another bite and snap his chain was pulled tight and he couldn't reach Lloyd.  Barking and drooling he kept biting the air.  The owner saw Lloyd and came to his rescue.  Lloyd said it bled quite a bit.
He finally found Mike at a members house.  The man said that he had to call the police and go to the hospital.  We know that Hawaii is a rabies free Island because you have to quarantine your animals  for 6 weeks before taking them with you to Hawaii.  They filled out a police report and went to the hospital.  It costs about $1,000 to clean out a dog bite and get a tetanus shot.  The guy said he would pay for everything, but he didn't have any money. blah blah blah.  We ended up paying for it.  I am just glad that it wasn't any worse.  Dogs like that can latch on and rip you to pieces!!! We found out later that the dog was put down.  I say if you are going to have a dog be responsible and train it and love it!

oh heck at this point I don't remember the names of all the beaches.  This may have been skin beach.  seriously I don't remember.

Lloyd and a lot of the guys being posers.  I think only a few of them actually surfed.

Us as posers as well.  You have to get a picture with a surfboard right!  I am actually scared of the water and waves.

Hibiscus flower... If you pic one one of the gods will curse you. ha ha I don't remember the story.

Lloyd and I went on a hike with Matt and some of the other guys.  Jacey was just dangling in the sling.  poor thing!

She fell asleep and her head just bobbled.  I had to hold it up for her.

a different beach...

Lloyd told me about the stairway to heaven when I got to Hawaii.  We drove past it quite a few times while we were there.  I though who ever does that hike is crazy!  As time went by I found myself wanting to hike it.  Lloyd said he would do it with me.  He wasn't to excited about it but he made it happen.  We had to get up at 2:30 am.  We left Jacey with mike and Sammie.

We were hiking in the dark for the first half of it.  This hike was forbidden.  It was a $300.00 fine if you got caught.  We were racing the guard for quite a while.   We made it up to the top pretty quick.  There were 4000 stairs!  When I say quick i mean an hour or so... What a workout :) The trail was built as a lookout for the military.  I heard there were 25 military bases on Hawaii... random fact... The stairs are so narrow that only one person can go up or down at a time.  You can't squeeze by someone... and hopping off the trail was not an option because you would fall off the very steep cliffs on either side... That is why it was illegal to hike it.  There was just to much liability...

Family picture on at sunset

Family picture during the day...

When we decided to leave things happened pretty fast.  i had a number of things I wanted to do before we left.  seeing this car and taking a pictures of it was one of them... I saw it parked so i told lloyd to pull over. we went and talked to the owner.  he was a wierdo!  He was an artist that painted his car for money.  He said we could get a picture with the car but not of the car...

We went to one of the camps that they filmed lost at.  Lloyd watched the show so we had to go see it.

We went scuba diving at sharks cove with Chuey.  it was his birthday.  This was also on my list of things to do before leaving... but more importantly I wanted to swim with a turtle... We saw tons of fish.  We went through a cave.. It was so amazing to see all the colorful fish!  This time I didn't get an ear ache and i didn't have to hold Lloyds hand the whole time.  I was able to relax.  We didn't even have a guide.  Wow I have come a long way!! We were swimming along and Lloyd tapped me on the shoulder.  I turned around and a turtle was right in my face.  Its like it was saying hello I am here!!  I could have grabbed it!  My first thought was is it going to bite me?  I screamed.  I panicked.  Then the turtle swam past me.  Lloyd said it had been following me for a while!  I felt so blessed!  Everything I wanted was happening.  I love Scuba Diving!!!

This house was a neighbor to some of the boys.  The man was an interesting fella.  He had a mullet just to paint the picture for you.  One of the guys talked to him.  He found out that Halloween was a lost tradition and this guy was trying to bring it back.  The sign used to say, "Black is beautiful." His house looked like that year round.

We went to Whiamea Bay Gardens. There were all kinds of plants there that i have never seen!  It was beautiful!
